Fishan is on a distinguished road
Default River Neath - Wales

Had a few hours fly fishing down on the river outside the house, well across the road, today, for only my four fly fishing excursion ever.

Conditions were really good. The wind was slightly breezy which made casting at times difficult and the distance fell short of the proposed drop.

River in much better condition now the rain has fallen, but the water remains clear and cold and quite fast. It now helps with the trees turning green, so as least there is a backdrop behind you to mask your shape, so trout are not so spooked (is one allowed to say Spooked anymore??).

Fished a spot between the head and tail of a fasting flowing section till lunchtime, then I went home for lunch. Then after lunch fished a spot just after the tail, then went back to drift lining between the head and tail for an hour or two. All in all had 12 brownies, but nothing over 1/2 lbs.

All trout caught on WF#7 floating line, with a 10 foot tapered leader, fished with a dry black gnat, and a Gold Ribbed Hare Ear Nymph dropper.

Hi Davy

Nice to hear you had some fish out of an improving river, mind you if I were you I would stick to fly fishing, not sure if the sea angling term drift lining would be appreciated by our fraternity though

Unfortunately, no photo's, as the Mrs will not let me take the digital camera to expensive to get wet. However, I will be going again next week to try some flies Buzz kindly sent me. But I have a cunny plan - so if I'm not allowed the camera the Mrs will have to come and sit there for hours and take the pictures. That might change her mind.

Latest Update:

River stocked on Friday.

River levels have dropped again since Thursday due to the lack of rain, so now fishing very hard without the presents of any hatch, however, deep pools are still available where fish are present but these are easily spooked.

Sewin have been spotted as far up the river a Rheola Bridge.
