Well anecdotally the WUF say that their re-introduction of salmon which included stocking and much habitat work has actually been very successful. On the ground the farmers are warning people to avoid salmon redds when fishing for grayling .. as for counts i guess none at the moment but they should be starting soon as ther temp and light drops ... why ?

The redds were counted when conditions allowed by the NRA bailiffs until the late 80's then during the 90's the NRA/EA records became very intermittant and then stopped.
I had the chance to survey some of the Arrow in 2008 (report in the River Lugg and Arrow Newsletter of spring 2009 http://www.wyeuskfoundation.org/news...ing%202009.pdf
Unfortunately the conditions were such that I couldn't do any meaningful surveying last year.
The bit I look at is only a snapshot, but, I suppose better than nothing!

For anyone interested in new Grayling beats on the Lugg and Arrow. There are 2 new beats on offer. Eyton on the Lugg above Leominster and The Mill at Mortimers Cross ( this is the beat just above the Midland Fly Fishers water that we had previously)

So have they lost the Midlands Fly Fishers water? 3 of us fished it last year and we all blanked, as we were packing up the farmer came for a chat and said he'd counted 20 cormorants on the beat the day before!

Yes, the MFF let the winter only for a specified length of time. They were kind enough to donate the takings to the Lugg and Arrow Fisheries Association. A very generous gesture.

I know of others who experienced the 'Black Plague' along that bit of water...the problem is when the comorants find a good roosting site they are quite capable of stripping that part of river before moving on to pastures new...

...and then there are the Gooseanders

Sabsman.

Default Lugg and Arrow conditions

Both rivers have returned to more normal levels. The Arrow is almost gin clear and the Lugg nearly so. A few leaves ( this will change with the frosts we have been having) A few Grayling rising today. Now is the time!

We are on the Leen next Tuesday, the 9th, of November. Hopefully the coming week end weather is going to be fine and dry? What length rod would be the most suitable for the Leen Beat? I'm thinking a possible 7ft,#3,weight?

Any advise from someone who has fished this beat, or from locals - would be appreciated!

Thanks

River is looking good. Kit sounds OK. Fish were rising this morning at around 8 am
Most are being caught deeper. I have seen no Salmon yet.
Good luck
