Hi,
Happy New Year to all.
I will be fishing the Lugg or Arrow at the end of march Friday 30th to be exact. Can anyone recommend a good trout beat for that time of year and flies to try.
Thanks
Ian

Hope the weather gods are kinder to the Lugg and Arrow in 2012.

And so do I SF. Conditions have been ideal so far this year for Grayling although I fear we have a reduced stock of large Grayling due to heavy predation over the dry months.
There is evidence of many more Salmon, much higher up, than usual, although I was unable to complete my redd count, due to high coloured water at the end of last year.

Grayling fishing finishes at The Leen at the end of the month. Thanks to the owners who have, once again, donated the proceeds to LAFA (Lugg and Arrow Fisheries Assoc) They reserve the beat until the end of the Trout season for their own fishing.

A team has been slowly working round the WUF voucher beats, giving them a 'haircut', removing barbed wire and lagging fences. So, hopefully they will be much more 'user friendly' during the season.

Any of the beats on the Lugg or Arrow should have the Trout mended up by then.
Some fly life will be showing on a good day.
Keep a good eye on the EA gauges at Byton for The Lugg or Titley Mill for The Arrow-- Its a very good idea to have a good look at the water before you commit vouchers to the box!

Thanks for the advice. We are thinking of fishing the Eardisland R30 beat as there may be 3 of us going. It looks wide enough for 3 in the picture but we haven't fished the area before.

Regards
Ian

Hi Ian
I think you might find there is not enough fishing for 3 for a full day. If you have time I suggest you try a little higher up and be prepared to go to a couple of beats- perhaps try one on the Lugg and one on the Arrow to get to know the rivers a bit.
Good luck with it.
Tony

The rivers look in superb condition at the moment with even the odd LDO.
Our little team, clad with waders and wielding pole saws, have been round several of the WUF voucher beats making them much more user friendly-
we have found some little gems for the small stream fishers- Pilleth and the Hindwell being worth a mention. We hope to tackle the Pinsley over the next couple of weeks. Passport books should be dropping on the doormat fairly soon.
Tight lines

I'll be staying near Bromyard for a week or so, from 30th March. Not familiar with the area and never fished the Lugg or Arrow before. Can anyone recommend a couple of good beats for trout.

Thanks
Kev

Fished the Arrow today R33 beat. Very nice beat water level is low. Glad I could try out the 6ft rod I made. No fish so it wasn't christened. Did take some pictures of baby Lampery about 6 or 7 moving stones.
