Fished this little jem this afternoon, back to my youth fishing tiny little rivers for truly wild fish.Pity the water was so low(don't usually say this but we really do need some rain!)The Wye And Usk beat below Lanthony, started with a little paradun to prospect as there were few rises and no real fly life to speak of-not a sniff right up to the arch bridge half way up the beat, some lovely bubbly riffles and deep pools, but very little movement.
Then a rise at the head of a slab bottomed pool under the trees, quick flick back-******!! -fly firmly in tree 10 feet up!Pull,snap,curse-quick look, still rising, change to a tiny sedge pattern, flick slurp-time stands still(and so do I)back to reality and all thats left is the ring where my fly was and the trout was!
Really pleased ,all in all, stunning spring day, beautiful little river and new born lambs all around-Oh and first trip out with dinky Orvis 1 wt and new Sage 3100 reel-does it get much better?A drop of rain maybe?
A few pics on the photo page for anyone whose interested.
