Reeesult!
Caught my first trout of the season from the city centre River Soar in Leicester, on my first attempt...yes. I have only ever managed two others, both last season from about 12 sessions...but plenty of coarse fish.
I don't expect to see any/many other posts of trout coming out, added here, but thought this post may encourage a few others to try, their local waters where trout are only roumoured to exist.
I have only met or heard of one other flyfisher, besides myself, who has taken any trout in the last 5 years from this river, so I am well chuffed despite how I may appear.
They do exist!

Returned alive...obviously, I shall be catching him again.

well done on your catch dee (what a lovely trout) who gives a f+ck what 'you' look like,i regularly drive through the middle of leicester ,(was amazed as i observed a heron fishing by the stream at 9pm on a winter's night by the lights of Hein Gerrick).herron = food, nice stream,and on my birdwatching forrays,i have seen plenty of trouty places,(not telling)

Hmmmm,me thinks a trip on the river erewash is in order,ive heard of trout being caught in here but ive never seen any,and as its at a low level now i have seen a few swims with a nice gravel bottom which may hold trout.
i`ll give it a go and see how i get on.

Del, I've heard of plenty of trout from the Erewash. You should have a way easier time than me!
I've wanted to fish that river for a few years now, nice size-I do like the smaller rivers. If you have any info on locations, clubs, free stretches etc I'd be very greatful.

PS. you can p.m. me if you are worried about it getting flooded by forum members...I doubt that would happen though. I told the LFFC members about my trout from the Soar last year(and tons of chub) but only one of them has even tried it and that is because he fishes with me anyway!
You tried the Derwent in the middle of Derby, I've had some great grayling sport there on day ticket(you don't even pay!)water. Had 17 one short winter session and all good sized fish of 12oz to 1lb 4oz, free!

Jim, biking to work along the canal this morning there was a heron right in the center of Leicester on the tarmack towpath. Never see one that close to the center before...they do seem to be getting braver every year, I remember as a kid only ever seeing them from afar now you can nearly walk up to them?

Amazing to hear trout caught in Leicester in the Soar - well done. Trout in the Erewash, well I saw a report on BBC East Midlands today about Trout being killed by pollution in Bagthorpe Brook a tributary of the Erewash quite high up. Some Brown Trout were rescued, and looked to be above 1lb in size from the video footage. Has anyone tried fishing the Bagthorpe brook? Anyone fancy a combined outing on the upper Erewash to try and locate trout?
Incidentally does anyone know of any other small streams/ brooks in Nottinghamshire that contain trout?
It would be an interesting diversion to the Derwent this season.

Cheers Del, great info. I know that area vaguely as I used to bait fish meadow lane on the trent(and Long Eaton) about 25 years ago. It is quite close to me being south Notts so I'll def. go and have a look next time I'm up on the Derwent.
