Default Mayfly fishing in Northern Ireland?

Are there any rivers that offer good mayfly fishing in Northern Ireland?

Cheers,
Brennan

NI rivers are not generally noted for big hatches of mayfly. Fermanagh's your best bet, the Colebrook, Tempo, Arney, Sillees and Ballinamallard all get hatches. Best of all is the River Erne from Roscor downstream, although it's pretty featureless after the drainage scheme.

The big browns drop down from the lower lough to add to the resident population and you can have great craic, 'specially in the evenings where you're more likely to find them taking the spent gnat than on the lough, due to the river being more sheltered. Still a bit hit and miss though and you need to be able to throw a long line as the fish are often quite mobile and you don't have the advantage of the boat to stalk 'em.

Thanks for the reply.

I'd like to fish the Colebrook and the others you mentioned. Any advice on where to get day tickets? Also, around what date should I be going?

Cheers,
Brennan

End of May sees a hatch on the Colebrooke and Ballinamallard. Sparse hatch on Tempo around this time too. Day tickets for Colebrooke from McCormick's (Spar) Main St Maguiresbridge and for the other one, also from Spar shop but in Ballinamallard this time. There is also DCAL water lower downstream on this river.

Never been asked for a ticket on either Arney or Sillees, but they're mostly coarse fisheries where big browns appear at mayfly time.
