Default Cressbrook and Litton flyfishers day ticket fishery

Has anyone fished this stretch? I want to fish it sometime this year as a treat to myself and to fish somewhere different. Can anyone advise on the best time to go and what can I expect?

Ben

Taken from Derbyshire thread.

"From an email received today:

Rainbow Trout stocked into the Wye by Cressbrook and Litton Flyfishers have been caught exhibiting signs of disease, red raised marks on the flanks of the fish which otherwise appeared to be in very good condition.

Research on the internet indicates this may be a disease known as 'cold water strawberry disease', for more information see http://www.thefishsite.com/articles/...wberry-disease.
This has been spreading through fish farms since 2003. Cressbrook and Litton Flyfishers have contacted the EA and they are going to electrofish the areas where the fish were caught as they have not heard of this disease in the wild before. They will then autopsy any diseased fish in order to make a firm diagnosis of the disease. The Cressbrook committee have decided to suspend further stocking with rainbows until we have further information on this disease, especially in view of the presence of breeding rainbows in the Wye."

The EA spent all day looking for diseased fish and managed to find only 5. These have been removed and sent to the EA lab at Brampton. Stephens day ticket fishery hasnt been affected.

Warren, has it been established whether it's wild or stocked fish affected?

Hi Ben,
I have fished the Monsaldale fishery regularly and also guide on there. Coincidentally I was there today with two German guys... It's a lovely stretch of river with vastly varied water from fast shallows to deep slower pools. There is a good head of both browns and rainbows (some are stocked fish). The disease referred to above has not been apparent on any of my visits this season. If you do decide to come up, have a great time.
JT
p.s. One word of warning: this is only a 3/4 mile beat and up to four day tickets are sold... Bear this in mind.

Thanks JT, I have done a little research and may be swaying towards the Haddon Estate fishery.
