On the subject of the
Wear Rivers Trust, their new Project Officer
Steve Hudson just posted this message on another fishing website:
A big hello to all the anglers in and around the River Wear!
I am creating this blog to introduce myself as the new project officer for the Wear Rivers Trust. Currently in my fourth week, I have been busy liaising with various stakeholders from in and around the catchment, gathering information and identifying issues that need addressing. Since arriving here from Cornwall, I have met many interesting people and been made aware of the issues that as users of the river, WE ALL FACE TOGETHER.
My role, with YOUR help is to identify issues, develop projects and take action through river habitat restoration projects, data collection exercises, education visits and voluntary work. Working with you, the EA, Association of Rivers Trust, DEFRA, Natural England, AONB, local councils, land owners and other stakeholders, I will co-ordinate many improvement projects during my three year post within the Trust. As a keen angler, I understand the where your concerns lie and I am looking forward to hearing from you! Please understand that as a conservation trust, our aim is to improve and conserve the conservation value of the river ecosystem and provide all groups of interested parties with opportunities to enjoy it. We must all focus on the common ground if we are to make progress.
We are currently working closely with the Environment Agency on a Wear Fisheries Development Plan. Consultations with anglers have identified a number of issues we are looking to address. This will be a three year project and from this many smaller projects will be developed to improve your fishing through improved habitat management, enhancing all fish species reproductive cycles, enhancing communication between ourselves and angling clubs and looking to promote angling on a wider scale to ensure a prosperous future for our fishing clubs.
Please feel free to get in touch with me if you would like to see something done along beat or if you would like to be involved in the projects we are looking to pursue. After all we all have the same concerns and if we are to improve on what is already an excellent angling resource, we must communicate and take action to ensure the next generations can enjoy excellent angling on the Wear.
Tight lines everyone and I am looking forward to hearing from you all!
