Sucks ass about your rod theft.....

Thanks for the nod for my DVD from oakedge,

They are available through Spidersplus (although the link seems to have dropped of Phil's web pages just now...possibly coz he has sold out; I'm sending him another consignment asap).

I sell the odd copy direct if you pay by cheque or paypal (email p.gaskell8@googlemail for details).

No hard sell, it is a simple/no frills DVD set out with people who can already cast a bit, but who need some guidance on a framework of how to approach rivers at different times of year. Fifteen pounds is the going rate.

All the best and good luck with your forays into river fishing. P.S. search for a thread with "Silty River" in the title. I posted some potted guidance tips in there that may be of use to you. Something else that comes to mind is a rig that I posted up recently that will let you change from nymphs to a dry easily depending on what you come across as you work your way up the river.
Upstream nymph/wet rig (with quick dry fly change option)

If you tie flies: http://www.flyforums.co.uk/fly-tying...-patterns.html

and

Good luck and enjoy

Paul

Can anyone recommend a relatively cheap rod? Would I be correct in assuming a 9ft 5/6 would be a suitable starting point or if I am to buy a rod would a 7 or 8ft be more suitable? A 9ft to me would be a bit more versatile as I don't fish on larger lochs so I might be able to pick up a rod that will suit both until I have the pennies to invest in more kit. And the last question for just now, is a wf line ok or does it really have to be a dt?
cheers
daz

Rod - depends on the size of the river. I use a 3 weight on a medium size river but most would opt for a 4 or 5. Line doesn't matter as you are not casting to the distant horizon. Again don't pay much. Pitsford Pirate on this forum will do you one for fifteen quid. D/T or F/T, I quite like the double taper on the river as it is easier to do a roll cast and to be quite honest I quite like the feel of it. You can even turn it round and use the other end if it gets a bit mangled. Alan
