Default Wherwell with Hugh

Just wanted to say thankyou for Hugh for organising a fantastic days fishing, eating and socialising on the Test yesterday.

I am a newbie to this river lark and i must say the strong downstream wind made my casting a bit pathetic at times (seemed to gust every time i took my line off the water to cast, i must have seriously pi**ed off the wind God that morning). Regardless of that i now have a new PB grayling of around 10inches (guessing about a pound?), a lovely male fish with a spectacular dorsal fin, I will pop a pic up when i get home from work.

Also does anyone know what the hatch was around lunchtime, they looked like small olives but were a bit darker, didn't get one out for a closer look unfortunately, but they provided a good rise for about an hour or so during which time i managed to lose three fish on parachute olive patterns

Thanks again Hugh
Dan

As you say, another grand day..good few fish but not as prolific as they have been..I think they have their minds on other things now.

The wind was a bummer, straight downstream and very expensive on flies!!

Will be there for the final fling, next weekend.

Incidentally, if we get the chance to say hello...I'm an OF who wears a Beanie Hat, due to lack of hair and I drive a black Mitsubishi 4X4 ( a small one).

My first trip and would just like to echo Dan & Roy and say what a great day I had. Did'nt manage a Grayling, lost two and got very frustrated with myself, just never felt I was doing anything right. I did manage a brownie in the morning so must have done something right.

Not very good with introductions but I am sure I know who is who now, so next time I will definatley say hello and be plugging both of you for as much info as possible. Can't make next week so hope goes well. Hugh is going to email the dates(please don't forget Hugh) for next year and I will definatley make some room in the dairy.

Great day, well organised and great bunch of lads.

Last Sunday was the toughest day this year , I think everyone had fish and some nice grayling as well. Cased caddis seemed to be on the menu of course served at a very low temperature.Hopefully the caddis will be served a bit warmer this coming weekend.
