Had a quick trip to my local river yesterday. Whilst dropping a couple of bugs in a small pool, noticed a couple of, what appeared to be be, Czech nymphs hanging in a tree above my head. I obviously did the concientious thing and removed them with the tip of my rod. I was right, two Czech nymphs on a #12.
What shocked me was that each hook was tipped with a maggot...

If you're aware of this method please explain

theres always one aint there? Just a desperate one to catch a fish. Probably a bit of a novice, as if czech nymphs are going to be lost anywhere it will be on an aquatic snag.

I reckon it was lee majors myself, got fed up throwing in flies as feed,

maybe it was a guy trying to go from a coarse angler to fly angler,???

The transition is hard

It works much better if you dispense with the dressing completely and just use the maggots!
