Hi Spider,

The competiton days for Europeans in the Cork/Kery area are on Tuesday 22nd, Wednesday 23rd, & Thursday 24th September. There is 2 sessions on Lough Leane (East & West), 2 sessions on Lough Caragh (Upper & Lower), & one session on the River Blackwater.

No-one knows the sector where the competition on the Blackwater is being held, top secret at mo (could be anywhere on 12 miles of water) but I think it is being run somewhere around the Mallow area. Practice for the river session is on the River Sullane & River Dallow. Competitors could also fish the Allow, the Flesk, & the Laune. It will be thigh waders only on the river section so it'll be interesting to see how the Czechs, French, & Poles handle that.

They will still take some beating on the rivers cos without doubt they are the best river anglers.
They might not have it their own way on the Loughs though.

Hello Spider,
Well i dont deny that the French,Czech and Italians are the best teams in the world at the moment. But they have the right selection process, where we as a country are a joke,by this i mean that we only have 2 competitions to get on the Irish team.First you have your provience where you must finish in the top 20,then the all Ireland where ye fish off to make the team.
In Munster we have over 80 anglers fishing the munster river championships and you would have more only that we are limited to 2 anglers per club. Then in Connought you are lucky if 20 anglers turn up for there quilifier....
I have fished for Ireland a few times and every time there has been anglers on the team that basically cant fish or dont have the drive and determination that these European teams have, and when your on a team you need every angler to be able to fish to the same standard so that they can help each other out with flies and tactics, now how can this happen with Irish teams when some of the anglers cant even river fish never mind nymph or dry fly fish..
But in this country i know that we have the anglers capable of doing alot better than we have, but for this to happen we as a country need to introduce the proper seletion process to make the team, and by this i mean that we need to introduce a selection process by means of a making the team over a 5 or 6 competitions where you get the anglers that can adapt to the various conditions and change tactics to suit the river and weather...
Until this happens we will be looking on as spectators at the top teams...
Its a pity really when you look at the rivers and lakes we have here in Irealand, most other countries would love to have our venues...
So i hope that i havent upset to many people with this comment, but its just the way that i as an angler feel and i know other anglers out there feel the same
So tight lines to ye all

Hello Spider,
"Well i dont deny that the French,Czech and Italians are the best teams in the world at the moment"

If that is the case why aren't any of them the current World Champions?

The fact that they are two trout angling bodies on the island does not help either blackwater man,the qualifying system is a joke in the itffa to,we had a qualifier on lough ennell which is dead as a daytime fishery,2 trout for 126 anglers and then drew the names out of the hat to fill the places for the interpro final in lough arrow,Arrow is known to be a tough water to,and one good fish could be enough to make the senior team, therefore a person could make the Irish team by just catching one fish, big joke imo.

Fully agree with you on the selection process Blackwaterman. It is a complete joke, but I've heard that they may be changing it to a league basis over 5 or 6 competitions, at least I hope they do. The sooner the better this sytem comes into place as then we'll be able to send a half decent team to World and European Championships where all Irish competitors are decent rods.

I've also heard that one guy on the European team for Bosnia next year qualified for the Irish team on his second time fishing. The first time he qualified from Connaught on the Connaught Rivers final and then low and behold, catches one trout in the Inter-Provincial Rivers in Tuam and is on the European team for next year.

And as Grasshopper says with 2 trout angling bodies in Ireland that definitely doesn't help.

Complete joke, only in Ireland.

Well grasshopper i hope that you know that only the people with the fish in the leinster qualifier can make the team and not the names that come out of the hat....well i think thats the rule..........

Bert, you are well informed...you are correct on both counts,so lets hope that the selection process takes a step in the right direction...and this secert commitee that was set up gets it right as they might not get another chance if the old heads get there way...
