Default Loch Leven & Loch Awe

Hey folks,
Normally river fishers me and a m8 are in search of wild brown troot this weekend. The two lochs we fancy are leven & Loch Awe.
Has anybody got any advice on first of all which loch to fish & secondly what techniques to use on the chosen loch.
If anybody has anyother lochs in the surrounding area that would be worth a go please do forward them.

Darren

I was at Loch Awe a couple of weeks back and the trout fishing left a bit to be desired. My friends and I usually fish rivers so aren't particularly experienced at loch fishing but with fished from the shore and from canoes for a day and nobody caught anything, apart from 1 just over half a lb on a worm.
The locals said the trout fishing isn't as good as it was but that on occasion, if the conditions are right, it can be really good.

We ended up at the top of the loch fishing around the castle for pike. Previous to that I was purely a trout fisherman but that was unbelievable fun. Got 2 at about 8lb on lures. Sure you'd get more and bigger if you used proper pike flies. You might not think its your cup of tea but I can pretty much guarantee that it will be once you've tried it! The bloke that comes round is really sound as well, he charges a fiver a day and you can camp for free, right next to the castle if you want...

Darren,
I'm presuming you haven,t fished from a boat before, so if this is the case, maybe starting of somewhere smaller to start of with would be a good idea.
Even a rainbow water, if there is no wild brown trout fisheries, closer to home.

Thanks for the replies guys very usefull!
Capeldrae, sorry my post was pretty vague I used to be a member of a trout fishing club (Drinking club to be more precise) which my grandad took me along to, this involved Rainbow fishing from bank and boat. But since turning 17 when i passed my driving test i lost interest in the rainbow fishing (stockie bashing) and concentrated on rivers due to my grandad moving to innerleithen (Tweed) Still have all my res gear but its been gathering dust in the garage.
The reason i am choosing to go on the lochs is that the tweed is running big and coloured and not my prefered conditions.
