Default Gladhouse & Harperrig near Edinburgh

A few months ago I heard that the public boat on Gladhouse is no more, this is a real shame, has anyone any further info on this? Such a shame that only syndicate members get a chance to fish it.

Also, has anyone fished Harperrig this season? I saw it last year almost empty, I wonder if any fish survived this, and how it has recovered this year?

Oh and while I'm here, has anyone hired a boat on Whiteadder reservoir before? What like are the boats? Its a great place but on the bank you miss so much of the water.

fished whiteadder many times in 1980's!! boats may have changed by now!! but were proper clinker built at time. caught just as many from bank though as best drifts tended to be close in to shoreline anyway!
as to info re gladhouse/harperrig, give nick a call on this link or email him, he will keep you informed.

Fished Harpperrig on Tuesday this week.
Conditions were overcast and only got two heavy showers that lasted about ten minutes each with a nice west wind. Started fishing about 3.30 from the south bank with a bushy bibio size 10 on the dropper and a normal bibio size 12 on the point. Got two fish both of about 10 inches in the first hour and missed about another 6. Changed tactics with a gold bodied muddler with a green tail size 10 on the dropper and a silver invicta size 10 on the point. Missed quite a lot of fish which included 3 fish dropped on the invicta before landing a fish about a pound on the muddler, then after changing the invicta back to a bibio i landed a fish about a half pound. About 8 o'clock the wind ceased leaving a flat calm with fish rising all over the loch so i decided to try a yellow owl cdc before i left at 8.30. I missed one second cast then got one about a pound ten minutes later. In my opinion for a £10 permit that lasts all day i got more than my monies worth. Will deffo be back.

Must agree with this. Don't think I've caught a fish from the boat more than 10 yards from the shore. Only real advantage is if you fancy moving banks as that can involve a fair hike.

We used to pay for boat and then park it, and fish from bank, rowing to other bank if needed, at the time bank fishing was only allowed after 1st june due to lambing season, but its been 15 years or so since i was last there so dont know current regulations re bank fishing.

I've not fished it for a 6 or 7 years, but I'm actualy going there with myclub in August and really looking forward to it. It'll make a change not fishing it in Arctic conditions as we usually fished it in May. Just as well it's one of those waters that seemed to fish better the worse the weather got
