Default Floatant

There is no full proof plan m8 if its cdc feathers your talking about, i use frogs fanny which i find very good for drying the feathers! you can buy it from sportsfish.
Give it a try m8 to see what you think.
Cheers Robert

As Frederick the Great of Prussia is quoted as saying:

"Genius is the infinite capacity for taking pains."

Constant attention is the only sure way. Dry them out, reproof them, dip them in powder... Just keep paying attention to them. Wash the slime off them after each fish and dry them out, reproof... all over again.

false casts help to "wring" the water out of the fly. I did have a samadou dryer.... until I lost it. but it was very good at reviving cdc flies and other soggy flies.

if you are using flies that require the use of floatant, then make sure they are thoroughly dry first, the floatant will work far better. plus the more solid the floatant the longer it will last i.e. mucilin will last longer than gink as it is a thicker consistency.

it helps to use flies with floating parts. cdc, deer hair and foam are examples of naturally floating materials. you can also treat your flies/materials with floating treatments beforehand e.g. watershed. although im not convinced it makes all that much difference after the first drowning.

Great advice from Richard, and believe me, your flies need to be very dry and the waters he fishes!

A couple of extra thoughts... John Tyzack showed me a simple way for cleaning and drying your flies - particularly after catching fish. Just flick your lfly downstream and then, keeping your rod tip close the water, rip your fly back upstream through the surface several times. THen just do a few rapid air dry casts. This works great, and JT will tell you that it is pretty much all you need to do. It works for me.

Good one TM, must try that. Frogs Fanny is good, expensive at £6 odd but worth it especially for CDC. ATB, Alan
