Default river cover,leyburn, report..

fished the cover last sunday ,arrived 9am to get tickets from cover bridge inn @ £6.50 for the day , the landlord did say that the cover traditionally is a slow starter so i knew then it wasnt going to be easy ,but the whole point of me fishing on sunday was really a fact finding mission finding decent pools holding fish ,getting pics for reference in different conditions ie when carrying extra water etc, conditions were very bright which enabled some good fish spotting oppertunities, but not catching ones and there are some huge trout and grayling in the stretch for the size of the water i can assure you,one pool held 5/6 fish well upto 2ft long with grayling of same proportions , the day was a bit of an embarrasment really as i waded to cross banks i was like bambi on ice , cleated soles and slippery rocks are a big no no,now i know that but i didnt want to wear full chesties and felt sole boots knowing i was going to do a lot of walking and through a wood ,brambles etc etc so just went with a pair of thigh waders knowing that the water wasnt that deep and most of the fishing would be done from bankside, however all was sorted later in the day as to the waders as the seam where the boot meets the sole decided to part company via an inch long split enabling me to soak the river up through my waders luckily for me i wasnt far from where i started in the morning so a wet foot for the last hour wasnt so bad

entrance to the fishery is via the public footpath through the stone wall at the side of the bungalow next to the pub when you get down to the river which is about 60/70yds down the path here you have to cross the river to be able to fish on there permitted rights which are ......

from the bridge itself on the left bank looking upstream to the stepping stones which will become apparent in the following pics and is single bank fishing upto these on the left bank only looking upstream, from here on in its double bank fishing upto the old carthorse bridge over the river which is there upper limit ...

below are some pics of the stretch starting from the entrance to the fishery upto the stepping stones

Nice pictures and report Bruce.

I can fish the Ure next to the River Cover on my Bradford number 1 licence but I haven't tried it as yet.

Matt.

cheers matt, originally the cover ticket used to give you some access to the ure at the confluence ,and on some websites it still states that , unfortunately it is not so now as i enquired with the landlord of the pub when getting my ticket..

Nice report and pics Bruce, that water looks low and spooky.
A bit like a small Eden.
