Default The taste of trout

I was out on Lake of Menteith on saturday and caught my first 2 blues. And whilst eating them last night it got me thinking, what is the nicest tasting trout? And do they all taste different?

Imo i would without hesitation say the blues were the nicest tasting trout i have ever had. Rainbows aren't too shabby either, but the blues just topped it. I think browns are a wee bit bland tbh.

What are everyone's opinion on the fine dining of troots?

With freshwater fish, where the fish is from makes a lot of difference to the flavour, which may be difficult to separate from the spedific taste of the flesh.

I Killed and ate a couple of overwintered Rainbows last season and they were great tasting fish

I Never kill browns unless I am wild camping but they too are great tasting.

Im not a lover of trout, but i find the best and easiest way to cook it,

Wrap the fish in tinfoil
Cook in Oven till fish comes of the bone,
When cool, flake fish into jar of curry of your choice,
And simmer for 15 mins,
Serve with Rice,

Question No intent to 'hi-jack' the thread ...

but the term 'blues' just showed up in posts (or ones I've seen) the past few days. What type of trout (?) are they?

I have had one or 2 that tasted a bit yuk. Dont know why, what they have been feeding on, illness, recovering from spawning or other possibilities.
Have had tasty ones on the same day from the same water and area.
In general I would say if they have a yellow or golden belly and pink flesh when cooked then they should taste great.
I would also like to add im generally against killing wild browns nowadays. Unless from a water that seems to have plenty and is not fished much, then i may take a few pan size ones.
Last time i killed some trout was april 08, food supply was running low and had returned about 100 that day between 2 of us
