Default first ever rainbow

caught my first ever rainbow on sunday at burnhouse .WOOHOO.
AFTER 3 fruitless days at welsfield i finally caught 1 of these buggers.i wished i knew how to post pictures on to show u all.it was a healthy 4lb dead on specimen. but it cost me. i lost 3 more cracking fish and 3 of my flies . 2 viva,s an a hairs ear. but luckily i have a m8 who knows something about them.
PS. i caught it on size 12 hairs ear then lost the fly on the first cast back in on another fish.

Well done for catching mate
Now this thing about loosing all these fish
What leader/tippit are you using ?? Is it upto the job ??
Are you breaking off when you "HIT" the fish ?? Is a problem i used to have as i just get way to excited , even after 30 years of fishing for all sorts it still really "does it" for me
What knots are you using ?? Are you making sure the knots are tied wet to stop them burning ??

very good point always remember to wet your line before tying the knot tight, i learned this from an old fella and it made a big difference.

Well done Chic, hope it was worth the wait! I am sure our mutual friend will sort you out with some replacements!

Go to the Gallery there is a thread there that will show you how to put on your photos.

Hope there is not such a wait for fish number 2, and 3,4 and 5!

Well done. I still remember my first. It took me 8 trips before I managed to land one.

hi, sweenytodd.

the knot i,ve been using is the slip knot the easiest 1 to tie. it was 4lb leader i think not sure,( ENGLANDER TIED IT ON ).It was the line at the hoop that broke, as i still had my knot on me line.it broke as i was striking into the fish .It must have been up to the job as i got that 1 in no problem. so its either 1 of 3 problems.?

1. im stronger than i thought
2. Englanders leader line is shyte
3. or the bloody fish are carrying knifes about in there back fins.

I am not going near point 2. on your list but yes i think points 1 and 3 are whats going on for sure
OK joking aside .. Try not to get over excited on the strike ( as i often do ) I was told it is more like pull and lift into the fish not an actual strike as such . Also have a look here at fishing knot section , there is heaps to choose from >>>> http://www.marinews.com
Hope it helps and good luck to ya
