Default Fishing in Hampshire

Hello everybody,

I'm hoping to spend a bit more time fishing this year as I've abrely touiched a rod since leaving Wales for uni which is now a few years! I've found a lot of still water and fisheries around about whihc is fine but I'm really after some information on the rivers especially as the old man wants to come down and try some of Hampshires finest.

Due to the sheer cost of the day tickets the Lower Itchen and Test are definately out. I'm after somewhere where there are plenty of beats to choose from but it seems that most of the clubs around here charge per day per beat. I've got a bit more research to do on the Rother with Petersfield AA but have also heard good things about the Dun.

Can anybody suggest any places within 45 minutes of Portsmouth that either has a fair season ticket price or a day ticket no more than £50.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Emyr

Default Day Ticket Fishing

In all honesty Taff you would be better to widen your horizons if you wish to fish the rivers/streams to the west of Portsmouth.Test & Itchen are off the ricter scale for your budget and Salisbury AC has a dead men's shoes type waiting list.www.goflyfishing.co.uk have some options which may interest you.

Otherwise it is stillwaters of which some have a stretch of river.

Some good advice from JCP, the chalk stream stretches at stillwater fisheries are worth investigating. Dever, Holbury and Avon Springs all offer a river beat and there are several others.

Specifically on the Dun, that flows through Holbury and it's a delightful little chalk stream as long as it's not in flood - hence the name ! Simon Cooper offers day tickets on 2 nice looking beats further downstream from Holbury and just by Dunbridge and Mottisfont station, but again his prices may just be a bit fierce for you.

I know it's not Hampshire, but have a look at Berkshire which has a few rivers that may suit. (Kennet/Pang, etc) tends to be less than the hants streams..

IF and it's a big if as i'm only halfway into the usual waiting period, but IF i get my acceptance onto the syndicate im down for this year, i'll gladly take you on a guest ticket. 4 miles of the loddon and carriers with wild fish... sitting here praying for a miracle, but it's dead mens shoes i'm afraid...

Default Fishing in Hampshire

Taff,

There are a couple of stretches of water on the Itchen that are free. They do tend to be heavily fished, but that said, it's the Itchen , , , , ,

Winchester - from Durngate Mill near the city centre downstream for about a mile to St.Catherine's Lock - all on the left bank. Technically speaking this is for the most part the Itchen Navigation.

Tywford Meads - Shortish stretch of the left bank of the Navigation - just west of Twyford villiage and north east of Shawford.

Also, Southampton - from Mansbridge down to Woodmill - all of the left bank, plus some access to the right as well.

I am based in Southampton - PM me if you need a bit more detail.

Hi all, thanks for the replies. So far the Woodington is winning although I'm thinking 1700yards isn't much. I think I'm just being fussy as I've always had access to the Tregaron stretches of the Teifi where you have a choice of -7 lng beats. The river piddle etc is out, if I have to work hard to catch something I'm going to eat it after! Holbury lakes is looking pretty good so far too with acces to the Dun. I'll have a look at Berkshire, I'm not against travelling and think it may be required if I want to do river fishing. Atealst I have lakes within 15 minutes of my house which is a very good strating point.

Many thanks for all you help and offer Browniebasher

Looks like I have plenty of choices in stills around here and think that will be my chosen route down this neck of the woods. Still find it crazy that I can get a season ticket back home on the Teifi and drive back once a month for less than a week on the Test. Thanks for all your help and Aidan I'll be contact about the Itchen as I'm interested in the over fished free bits!
