Question Glamorgan Anglers & River Taff -When???

Hi,

Can anyone confirm for me.....I am a new member to Glamorgan Anglers and very new to fly fishing. I understand from looking at their web site that I am not able to fish the Taff between 15th March and 15th June.

Is this the case or have i got the wrong end of the stick???????????

Regards

Jacko

Hi Jacko,

See rules below as taken from the G.A. website.

5) Game Fish.

A. A Club Game permit is required to fish for migratory game fish [Salmon, Sea trout] on all club waters.

B. The Game fishing season will commence and cease according to the dates set by the Environment Agency. (E.A By-Law).

C. All Salmon, Sea Trout or Trout, hooked other than in the mouth must be returned to the water immediately. (E.A By-Law).

D. No more than two game fish shall be taken on any one day.

E. Trout under 12" long [30.5cm] must be returned.

F. Spinning is not allowed on the River Taff unless in possession of a Club Game permit.

G. Fly-fishing for Grayling and Brown trout is permissible on a club coarse permit but all fish are to be returned.

H. Fly-fishing for Grayling and Brown trout on the Taff is permissible between 15th March and 16th June subject to local by-laws.

Thanks Bushy,

however GA website also says...........which is why i am confused!

Close Season 2009.

As with every close season, the club now can keep certain still waters open throughout the year. What we have taken into consideration is allowing our waters a 4 weeks rest every year, which also allows any large scale maintenance required to be completed without interference to Club members.

Waters Closed March
15th 2009 to June 16th 2009.

River Taff
River Wye
River Usk
River Ely
LLantrythid Lake

St Y Nyll Top Pond (will open 1st June 2009.)
Waters which will close for a 4 week period.

Lake Susan Barry.
Open all year.
Carols pond
Open all year.
Pysgodlin Mawr.
1st April to 1st May 2009
Gribbles Covert.
1st May to 1st June 2009

Hi Jacko1812

If you had a look on the T&C letter that came with your Rod licence it say's

"A National course fish close season is in place on Rivers, streams, drains and on some Stillwaters and Canal SSSI's from 15th March to 15th June inc"

Don't fish for Coarse fish...

It should be better worded on GA website

Allways read the Terms & Conditions....... They are hidden away

Question

Even more confused now!

I have a course EA licence and a Course GA licence - in plain english when can i fly fish the Taff with what i have?

I have been given a number of anwers on Glamorgan Anglers forum(see copies below) and also recived this reply from GA admin.

'Please find attached the latest EA byelaws on open season game fishing, you can not course fish during the closed season but there are separate dates for game fishing'

Please Please help!!

Jacko

If you have a club game licence then you can fly fish the Taff during the coarse close season. If you look on your EA licence I'm pretty sure it gives details of the different game seasons..If I remember rightly <but far from sure>you cant fish for brown or rainbows until 1st April.

Hi jacko, welcome to the club and the forum You can fly fish the Taff from the start of the trout season which was 3rd March this year. All fish must be returned unharmed to the water. If you're heading to the Radyr-Llandaff stretch you may see me on the bank or in the water Hope this helps.
Cheers

Jacko1812

You Say,
"I have a course EA licence and a Course GA licence"

So that means you can only fish for COARSE FISH and the coarse fishing season will now start on the 16th June after the close season as ended.

If you had bought game licences instead, you would be able to go fly fishing tomorrow.
