i walked into a tackle shop in leicester the other day and was shocked to find that the guy sitting at the counter was sure i was going to steel something when i asked him why he was giving me a dirty look he said "teenagers cant like flyfishing" as i have been flyfishing since i was about eleven im pretty sure im mad on it

i should have known better when i applied for me and my dad to join a local flyfishing club

Up to you to change his attitude then,get on with it.

There's nothing wrong with it at all! I'm a young guy and just started fly fishing, i love it! It's just another sport/hobby, bet you get interesting views from your friends as well?!

Think all teenagers are just tarred with the same stick, though if you were some random pillock shoplifting, would you really choose a tackle shop?!

When i was 13 i went into my local tackle shop to buy a fly line. I paid the owner and walked out after little chat as usual! I got home and found i had just bought an empty box!! I went back and was accused of being a liar.
I now own that tackle shop!

you stick at it bertie,one of the best pastimes on the planet,and as 3lb says,prove him wrong.It doesnt matter what he or anyone thinks if you enjoy it then keep at it.out with nature,learning about nature,what more do you need,its great i love it. gary.

My two sons who are 11 and 13 both love fly fishing and flytying.

my little girl who has just turned 11 has been fly fishing with me since she was 10 ,and ha been attempting to tie her own fliesfo the last 6 months one of the first flies she attempted was the griffiths gnat and we went to fewston res ,guess what?? yep first cast one rainbow with it at just under 3lb ,she now has the fly mounted !!
