Smile Corrib Trout Spawning

Hi Guys
I have just spent the last couple of nights walking a number of Lough Corrib's spawning streams. The good news is there a lots of fish busy making babies to keep the wild brownies alive and well. It is a wonderful sight to see them spawning in little streams and in good numbers. Most of the fish I have seen are 1-2lb with a few 3-4lb fish here and there. I also saw alot of salmon in one river and a few big ferox as well. I think if more anglers seen this happen it would make them realise how important it is to release your fish and help the wild trout to survive, and also to support the local clubs in development fundraisers to keep these important natural resources in good health. It is heart warming to see these beautyful fish doing what nature intended only a few feet from where you stand, and long may it continue.

Great to hear they are running strong in the streams in Corrib Andrew, all the hard work ye lads have done on the streams starting to pay off, walked a couple of local streams myself last saturday night, full of trout but didnt see any salmon yet, still a wee bit early here for them.Did ya get to see any big ferox Andrew? And as you stated catch and release is crucial for the future of the great western loughs and hopefully the fisheries will come down hard on people breaking the new by-laws.

Great to hear Andrew,

Really good news, the clubs on all of the Loughs in Ireland do albsolutely fantastic work to save wild trout and they should be commended and supported.

Indeed. Can't praise enough all the lads from the various clubs giving up their free time to ensure the future of this great fish.

OK Lads, I will try to get a few pics tonight if the weather holds. I am not sure if my camera is up to the job for night work but I will do my best.
Styile the ferox are a bit harder to get near. They are in a much bigger river and seem to be very light shy. On Monday night I saw about four. Three would have been about 6-7lbs and the last one I saw a good 10-12lb. I got to watch this fish for about one minute before he headed off. A fine big cock fish with a big kype and seemed very well made. Would like to have him on a fly next season. Any way tea time and then I will see what I can do.
