Default Break from fly, which fishing should i try

Morning,

Im a keen fly fisher and will spend every weekend out fishing somewhere or other in Scotland no matter what the weather. I love it.

That said, I want to try and give something else a crack the odd weekend here and there.

Anyone got any suggestions (fishing wise)?

Whats the deal with carp fishing? where to go in scotland?
Bait fishing for rainbows? where to go?
Pike fishing? lochs in scotland, whats needed?
Anything else?
Fisheries that have course or bait fishing allowed

What tackle do i have to get for any of the above?

Please post and help me out

Chris

**Edit** id like to sit on my **** and watch a float for a while

IF it were me, i'd want to winkle one of the massive pike out of one of the Scottish lochs. I'd probably troll a huge bait on heavy tackle. I've always been fascinated by what might be out there. I'm a firm believer that 70 or 80lb pike are out there somewhere. Failing that, i'd be legering for carp.

Default Centrepin

I do a lot of centrepin fishing which is the next best thing to fly fishing IMO.
My set up is as below

I have landed some big fish on this gear too, including;
10lb 4oz barbel
4lb 8oz sea trout
5lb chub

I would dearly love to catch a 2lb roach or 2lb grayling.

Default other fishing

If I were you i'd get a 12ft avon rod about 1.5lb test curve and seek out some river coarse fishing(chub, roach, occasional Trout etc.)
Float fish or ledger.
Great sport.
Sorry I can't help with location as I live in Devon.
In the summer I use the same set up for freeliniing bread for carp.Very Exciting!

You are just coming into the right time of year for cod fishing on the east coast.
Its not for the faint hearted and you are fishing over very rough ground but the rewards can be superb! You usually need an easterly wind. The stronger the better!! lol
Try Arbroath, Inverbervie beach or Stonhaven. I love it!!

During the winter i also fish for Grayling and you are lucky to have the River Earn not too far from you.

You can take your fly rod or use a method called long trotting with the centrepin set up that phil-k mentined. Great fun, very visual and effective!

Just check the beat rules allow you to do so.

Pike on loch awe, tay, earn or lomand or for big wild pike, or some trout waters for the short fat pike. 2.5 or 3lb test curve, bait runner anb 40lb braid (just in case you hank bottom you can pull to straiten hooks rather than leave baited trace)
grayling fishing all over the place aswell

Winter, it really has to be pike. Static dead baiting probably the most productive winter method.

Pike fishing or trotting with a centerpin for grayling or other coarse fish.

Carp fishing can be far too "artificial" in feel these days with small muddy puddles often over-stocked with damaged fish.
