I've fished it twice in winter - Christmas corporate "jolly" type thing and caught the requisite 4 big lumps each time, so I guess the answer is yes. First time I was lucky and dropped straight on fish and had my limit in 2 hours, bit too easy, had to twiddle my thumbs for the rest of the day (couldn't bring myself to part with another £55 for another 35-40lb of trout I didn't really want to kill in the first place). The following year it was a bit harder and I did at least manage to spin it out over the day. Didn't go back the year after though, not really my type of fishing to be honest, but if you like that type of thing then I'm sure its worth a winter visit.

Lechlade fishes best in the winter. colder the better there is the rule.

A few things to think about and places to fish:

1 ALWAYS look in the margins. In winter the fish can be very close in. don't spook them thundering past!

2 best pegs are any fishing into the bays, or where the boats are moored, casting to the island. other good pegs are the promontory at the far end, and the peg by the far end of the island (there's a bin there) There's also always a fish by the boat-house.

3 East wind can RUIN lechlade. if a strong easterly is forecast, think twice about going.

4 You shouldn't need a sinker yet. there'll be plenty to target with damsels/buzzers/gold head daddies on a floating line

5 If you have a boat. moor up to the buoy closest to the house and cast at the house and the near bank.

6 Other good swims for a boat are the second and third buoys in the larger part of the lake.

7 Dont fish lighter than 6lb. even if the fish all appear to be 5-6lb, there are always a few beasts in there.!

8 If all else fails, and you're a decent caster, stand in the first peg you get to on the smaller part of the lake, (by the garden fence) put a damsel under the willow to the left and strip hard. - Game on.

Best of luck

Alex
