Default River streamer fishing method.....

Evening all!

Experimented with the above this season and found success to be sporadic at best with fish to slightly more than 1lb. Have come to the conclusion that I haven't fished the method correctly and would appreciate comments.

I have generally proceeded as follows:

1. Have fished the deeper, darker pots which I wouldn't usually bother with.
2. Have fished floater with fast sinking poly tip, 5' tippet and woolly ******/poodle or similar.
3. Have made a long-ish cast square, mended to allow sinking time and then stripped/twiddled the lure back across/down, much as you would old school wets.

Granted, my attempts have been mostly brief on the edge of darkness, before I've packed up and gone home.

Any ideas?

I started using them this year after getting some advice on a thread here. The results have been excellent. I use a similar set up to you, leaving out the polyleader for shallower water and cast square stripping back the streamer at varying speeds. I've found that runs, often no more than a foot deep, which I fished up thouraghly with a nymph and or dry catching very few fish often produce a huge number of fish if I turn around and immediately fish them back down.

Heres the thread that got me started, some good advice there
