I presume that's Arkle Beck a trib of the Swale

I can't help but note a theme in your posts flyman

It may help you in your plight to know all rivers are 'fishable' and there is no such a thing as 'FREE' fishing as all riparian rights are controlled by someone that may or may not be the land owner (usually a good starting point) as riparian rights are separate to land ownership.
However. There are places on rivers where the riparian owner allows a free access....such as "Town" water (even this was 'free' only for residents of the parish/town). Other than that it remains an offence to not seek and obtain the permission of the riparian owner which may or may not involve a fee for the issue of such access and angling rights.

With Arkle Beck for example chances are that the 'Riparian' Rights will be owned by the Estate (Gunnerside?) and either retained or let to Reeth and District Anglers Club for example.
Estates sometimes are fragmented and land is sold on into private ownership BUT often riparian, sporting and mineral rights are retained by Estate which doesn't help with clarity when trying to investigate.

These principles will apply to any river/stream/lake/ pond for the questions you seem to be asking

Well said, Sedgeking. I have fished a lot of the Cumbrian hill tarns, and found that getting access to them, with a clear conscience, was only possible by putting in more time at finding out how to do it than the average person would even contemplate. There are virtually no signs to guide the would-be visitor, and I declined the invitation to write a book on the tarns because the research would take too long. The National Trust owns a lot of property upon which there are tarns, but the advice they give regarding access is poor, and some of it is inaccurate. I guess many of those who fish such waters do so in the hope that no one will ask them to explain themselves, if and when they are apprehended. Property changes hands, riparian rights do, also, and my advice re any water that looks as though no one appears to be bothered about it is, nowadays, if in doubt, don't try it. It is the duty of each of us to seek permission, however difficult that might prove to be, before wetting a line on it. Jada.

Hi flyman1975

I'm not suggesting your after 'free' fishing as it doesn't exist....jada explained the 'cost' of such waters quite well and I pointed out the legal stance for ALL to read. Giving a few principles to 'work with' that may help.
I have spent countless hours and still do quite a lot of work in access issues for many river and countryside 'users'.

I, perhaps, was tongue in cheek with my remark about themed posts......but all your recent posts have followed the same pattern of question about every river in a 50 mile radius and with varied, sometimes invalid, answers.

Had your postS read "I'm thinking of fishing the River X can anyone tell me where day tickets are available please?" then there would be less confusion as even where rivers are fragmented the answer provided should always be to the positive as the direct question excludes all the negatives.

Here in Yorkshire though there are still a few clubs where a season ticket is cheaper than most day tickets in other counties so don't discount this option. If you like it then you can go back......why are you intent on fishing as many as possible may I ask? Get to KNOW one or two and love them......I KNOW I've never had a 'one night stand'. But I'm a bit of a 'tart'
