Have a look at the Wye and Usk's waters.

The Booking Office - The Wye and Usk Foundation

There is the "booking office" system for the mainstem rivers and a "roving voucher" system for the smaller tributaries. There are miles and miles of rivers and streams available. Perhaps if you let us know your preferences, we might be able to narrow it down a bit more for you.

The River Taff and the River Ebbw are the two most prolific trout rivers I know and the Taff still gets a very good hatch of March Browns . Garry Evans does the Taff tickets which are cheap and the Islwyn and District do tickets for the Ebbw.

I like to get a ticket for the Afon Llwyd early season from the Cwmbran Angling Association, they used to stock rainbows which is very wrong of course but a hell of an easy way to start the season, now they follow a more enlightened path and it's a nice little river with a good head of trout. You can fish the Monnow on their ticket, not sure what that's like now, the weir's been altered I think.

The Ogmore has a few fish early season too and good hatches - we're spoilt for choice in fact.

You're right Gizmo, keep sending 'em up the WUF. The post will self destruct in 24 hours.

Flyman,

As well as WUF waters have a look at the Rhayader and Elan Valley water. They have reaches of the Wye, Elan and Marteg which fish very well for early trout.

They supplement the Elan with stocked trout from their own fishery and some good fish can be caught. The Elan river level is dictated by the release from the dams so its fish-able despite heavy rain, and it holds grayling so great sport can be had all year round.

Here's the website - Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association - Rivers and Reservoirs

Hope you find it useful!
