Default River Wharfe

Right Guys .. I have never fished the wharfe and this season I want to give it a go. Am enjoying fishing the Ure immensely and now want to give that other dales river a go this season. So I know about the Bolton Abbey stretch and read mixed reports on here about it what other DT fishing is available , all advice greatfullly received .

Thanks

Andy

Hi Andy

Surely your not getting bored with the becks are you!

I fished at Burnsall a couple of years ago (poured down!). Lovely water, had plenty of fish and even caught on the dry in the evening! Tickets no available all through the season if I remember rightly so check before you go. Kilnsey was good too but that costs an arm and a leg.

Regards

Peter

Peter

No i am not bored with the becks or the Rye and the Dove, but fishing the Ure this last year or two has opened my eyes and this year would like to fish the Wharfe as well. The Eden looks pretty good to.

Thanks for the info Paul

Andy

Hi Andy,
The Nidd is a decent river and there are day tickets available during the trout season. At £12, their good value, some very good fishing.
Gary.

Have a look at the Yorkshire Dales Fly Fishing website.

Bradford City AA do Day Tickets in the trout season available from the Membership Secretary or from Dalegarth Holiday Cottages in Buckden - see the webpage here. But with membership only £32 for a year (though there's a joining fee of £15) why bother going only for a day ticket?
The river is fairly small up here and fished best after a bit of rain. Naturally, the fish aren't very big, but average size benefits from the kind folk at Kilnsey Anglers who stock the river just downstream with a fair few largish fish!

Bolton Abbey used to be fantastic fishing but in the last three years I fished it(4 or 5 years ago at least) there did not seem to be any hatches in the evenings and hardly any fly life at all
Combine this with the new(no) stocking policy and the fishing became really lean.
Saying that you could fish hard all day and catch zilch. Fish an hour into darkness and it would be a different story.
Mark, the river keeper, is a nice chap and helpful, though not as mobile since his unfortunate accident
Never fished Kilnsey but they do say it is grossly overstocked
Burnsall is nice, gets quite wide in places too.
Nidd is available on day ticket, season ticket very reasonable too(price of 5 visits to the Wharfe)
Check out the river accademy dvd for tips on the Wharfe.

Thanks guys.. its only the last few years I have fished the dales rivers after fishing the vale of York for very many years. I fish the Ure at masham now but this year I fancy also having a few days on the Wharf . Some good suggestions there will follow them up...

NB I can fish the Nidd on ticket exchange with one of the clubs I am in

Kilnsey Angling Club have never stocked the river Wharfe above Kettlewell bridge, they only stock the bottom couple of beats. Anywhere from Kettlewell to Deepdale is all wild brown trout.
