Default River Deveron, Aberdeenshire

Hi all,

I am hoping someone can give me a little advice about the River Deveron in Aberdeenshire. I will be fishing one of the lower beats on May 5th for Brown trout. This will be the first time on a river in nearly 20 years, so any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thx
Kevin

Just came back from a weeks fishing on the river as a party we fished Coniecleugh & Corniehaugh we travel for the brown trout but will also fish for the salmon if their about.

The water temperature all week was 8 degrees in the morning and 9 degrees by late afternoon.

Despite the water temperature we did on some of the warmer less windy days enjoy a good hatch of march browns if a little short lived at times, with the hatches occuring between mid day & 2pm.

We possibly didnt catch as many trout as other years but what we did catch was larger than last year, we also caught a few crackers 4lb8oz, 4lb, 3lb & at least 3 around the 2lb mark. A couple of the larger trout were caught on salmon flies while the others fell to dry march brown patterns.

The sport during the week your there will depend on how the water temperature goes a couple more degrees & a few more flies hatching & you could enjoy some of the most underated brown trout fishing there is.

I have lost count but this last trip would have been my 14 or so year there for the trout, it can be that good.

Thanks Ifor, thats very helpful
I now cant wait to get there. Your'e correct in saying it is a very underrated brownie water. It always has been, I fished it last about '87' and apart from a few locals everyone else fished for salmon and sea trout. Now I'm back home in Aberdeenshire I plan to fish it regular.

Thanks again

Kevin

Hi Kevin, you might want to try this forum too, http://www.wild-fishing-scotland.co.uk/index.php. Some of the guys there fish the Deveron a fair bit, one of them being Alan Liddle of FF&FT mag. I think he did a report on it last year.
Some real crackers to be caught from the Deveron, pity the cost goes up when the migratories arrive.
