Default Fish Eating Predators

Hi Guys

I'm trying to find out more details but here's the gist so far.

On Sat 18thFeb there will be a full day seminar aimed at anglers to hear some facts/truths about Piscivorous Predators and impacts of fisheries. Talks on Crayfish, Cormorants, Otters and Seals etc. A chance to question and pick the brains of some real experts......just off the M62 in Goole.

Should be of interest

Predators of Fisheries
An IFM event in conjunction with the Environment Agency.

The aim of the workshop is to deliver facts abouts these creatures, including the effects they can have, what can be done to minimise the risks to your fishery and present potential solutions to the problems. There will be presentations from experts in the field, covering the main predators: otters, seals, cormorants and signal crayfish. After each session there will be an opportunity to ask the panel for advice and further information.

Tickets for the event are £10 and need to be purchased in advance. The fee includes teas/coffees and a buffet lunch. Tickets are available from Michael Lee by emailing
careers@ifm.org.uk

Space is limited so book quickly.

Yes Jim, It would be nice to get hold of a summary of the meeting.

Although piscivorous predation is nothing new it appears that in recent years the problem has escalated with the increase in both Cormorant and Goosander numbers on our inland waterways. Even the once scarce Otter is successfully re-colonising many more areas...although I would consider the Otter to not pose anywhere near the threat as the piscivorous birds.

Unfortunately too far for me also but would like to hear what expert opinion makes of the possible problems/solutions.

Mick.

It's aimed at anglers, fishing clubs and interested parties that want to learn more about impact. It's a follow up response to the Yorkshire angling club forums/user group that has no representation from commercial fisheries.

I think they could have tried a bit harder with the pricing....but then again we've not seen the quality yet which we know costs cash and could be well worth it.

It would seem The IFM is more directed toward fishery managers and owners,
because Cormorants are targetting fresh water fisheries there must be a problem with the coastal ecosystem, I would prefer to see otters at a loch than some fishery managers, easker1

Gonna make sure they add Kingfishers, and then put your hard hat on!
lol
hope it is constructive, in terms of actually what each species is capable of doing, rather than the hyperbole generally reported.
look forward to any summary.
