Question Czech Nymphing Question..

If you had to choose one, which rod would you use for czech nymphing: an 8' #4 or a 9' 6" #7? I usually use the #4 outfit for grayling incase fish start rising (wouldn't be confident fishing dries off a #7 really) but which would you expect to do the job better?
Cheers,
Eric

8' #4 is a typical dry fly rod or small stream rod to me.

I'm only a novice but I think you'll find, for Czech nymphing, a much longer rod is in order. I think a 10ft #4, or even #3, are preferred.

I started off using an 8' 6" rod but have graduated to 10ft and find it much easier and gives me better control.

I'm no expert in this but would prefer to fish with the shorter rod rasther than a #7. You would be a lot better off with a 10' #3 or 4.

I know a longer rod would be the preffered option... but being a poor wee student I can't really afford the investment at the moment .

That's why I suggested my 9'6" #7, as I wondered if for czech nymphing it'd be worth sacrificing delicacy in favour of the extra length, or if I'd be better just persevering with the 8 footer until I can buy something more suited to the job.

For czech nymph go with the longer rod. You won't be casting as such with the fly line, just rolling or flicking the leader out.
Is you problem either or in choice of rods or do you have both rods already?

I have both rods already, and I know neither is ideal so I was wondering which is the lesser of two evils since I don't want to shell out on something new .

Cheers for the advice

this concept Czech Nymphing - can mean different methods of fishing. If you're talking about short nymph with heavy nymphs without the line using, then you must have not only the longest rod. We must have the toughest and the easiest rod.It has to keep always at arm's length and strike quickly. Once it was the best rod Sage RPL +, # 4 9,9 ft.
