Default Christchurch angling club

Hi I want to join a angling club this year for some trout fishing, has anyone fished for trout with Christchurch angling club or Ringwood angling club. I see they have a game section and plenty of flyfishing at Christchurch harbour. thanks Steve

Steve

The folks in Davis Tackle in Christchurch are pretty knowledgeable about CAC. The CAC website is pretty good, too, with a mixture of stillwater and river/ stream fishing for trout. Don't know too much about Ringwood, or where to go for information. Hope somebody else can be more help.

Regards

Tony

CAC use to have the fishing in Christchurch Harbor but the LA gave it to Ringwood AC a couple of years ago. CAC has some nice water but it's bias is salmon (Somerly Estate) and course fishing. They do have some Avon carriers through the Somerly Estate which are stocked but it's like taking candy from kids. They also have a lovely carrier at Ibsley which is about as pretty a stream could be, however the trout bug*er off into the main river as soon as they are stocked.

If you want stillwater style fishing (albeit with a good breeze) and the chance of bass (small), mullet (monsters) and sea trout then Christchurch Harbor is the place to fish. If you want to fly fish a river I'd ignore both and join Salisbury and District AC. You'll only get a general membership as the game fishing is allocated on a dead mans shoes basis (I've been waiting for 6 years!). Even though, the basic membership gives you access to a lot of water, most of which is fly fishing water and holds trout (some monsters, some steelheads too!), grayling, chub, dace and the chance of a sea trout. If you can wait long enough, the game fishing water SADC have is some of the best in the world and will rival anything on the Test or Itchen.

I'm not sure if you will qualify for membership, but it would be worthwhile inquiring about membership with Romsey AC (I think?) which has some nice water on the lower Test.

Also checkout dofreefishing.co.uk for free fishing on the Itchen

PM me if you want any more info... Darren

I believe that Romsey Angling Club, Southampton Piscatorial Society & Michelmersh & Timsbury Angling Club have all merged to become Test Valley Angling Club
"Tightlines" tackle shop is the place to go for a membership form.

Hope this helps
Rudolf
