If I were you I would hold off until morning and check SEPA records. I think they are updated around 8am which will show the river levels for around 6am the same morning. If you are in Glasgow you may often see the river rising, but up on the head waters it can be falling and perfect, and even low, such is the length of river in between. Strathclyde loch, the Avon and the North Calder chuck a lot of water downstream to Glasgow, so if they are low then your water levels will be dropping down below, but things could be completely different 50 miles away by road covering 80 miles of meandering river above.
The reason I say that is the burn running through my village near Carluke is in flood tonight.
