Default fishing the duo

Hi I was fishing this method this weekend, but found I was having trouble with the dry fly floating. So my question is what size dry fly do you use and do you drag the nymph along the bottom or off bottom thanks Steve

I usually use something like a size 12 klinkhamer and underneath I use anything form a size 20 spider or nymph to a size 14 nymph. After a while the dry will start to sink faster. I find that if you gink up your dries the night before they tend to float longer.
I guess you were after grayling so I would say that catching bottom occasionally is a good thing but it all depends at what level the fish are feeding though.

Try a heavier dressed balloon caddis or a stimulator for heavier nymphs.

As the above post, a balloon caddis specially one with a Aero dry underwing or a retirer sedge.

Fulling mill do good versions of both.

Hi some duo flies have a longer life than others and can support greater weights. This duo fly tied by Frank above is as good as any I've used. Takes plenty of fish to boot which is always a bonus.

Regards Jon.

i use a size 10 klinkhammer with a lot of turns of hackle and plenty of poly yarn. normally use a size 16 ptn with a 2.5 tungsten bead. i tend to try and avoid it touching the bottom too much, but this is a method that i tend to use in the warmer months.
