Default Kilnsey Park

Mrs DF nerfed junior and I out for the day yesterday, had planned to go Grayling fishing on the Dee but it was high and mighty so we elected to visit the above. Excellent venue, perhaps not the most technically demanding or challenging but we both caught a few rainbows (in perfect condition, fought like hell) and it was great to be able to wet a line. Appalling weather, 4 seasons in a day and windy too but a good on site cafe/restaurant and clean toilets. Only saw one other angler while we were there, too.

Thoroughly recommended.

I occasionally retreat to Kilnsey Park when the conditions aren't suitable elsewhere. It very rarely freezes because of the spring fed lakes. Yes, it's small and you are almost certain to catch but there are some belting fish in there and the water is clear as gin. That's me grinning like a fool with a 13lb Brownie on their homepage and in my avatar. I haven't been this Winter yet but I probably will soon when this wind drops!

Kilnsey was where I started my fly fishing (moved mainly onto rivers since then, although I still enjoy a day now and then). Done some summer work for them too a couple of years back. Not a really challenging water but I'm always impressed by the brilliant condition the fish all seem to be in. Been lucky enough to catch a 15lber out of there on a #4 outfit, as well as a 13lb blue on a dry which was built like a silver bullet .

Went there today to wet all my lovely new tackle I'd bought myself over the winter.
With it being the day after an 'Any method' couple of days, I didn't know what to expect. Turns out all the fish I caught caught like hell.
I've been fishing now for 5 months, and kilnsey has been the perfect venue for me to hone my skills. I really can't imagine me never going to kilnsey. I do eventually want to fish on rivers, but I'm a firm believer in learning how to crawl before I walk. This means I'm going to continue to fish at Kilnsey until summer, where I may start to look at rivers.
Anyway, caught 17 fish today in the six hours I was there with the biggest being a 7lb blue trout. All the fish were in perfect condition and as usual the facilities were top notch. I paid £20.50 (prices go up a bit tomorrow) for the full days fishing and to have 2 fish filleted. Oh and by the way, they taste beautiful
I'd recommend to everybody to try Kilnsey. Ok it's easy fishing, but with the scenery and the facilities, it makes a great day out fishing and I always come home relaxed.

kilnsey's ok to fish on those occasions when nowhere else is accessible. tends not to freeze - and its shallow, stuffed full of fish, a fail to catch would be shocking
not really my cup of tea - but then i'm a coffee drinker these days anyway
