Default grsyling flies

can anyone tell me what flies i should be using to catch grayling at the moment, should i be using nymphs? if so how, at thr moment i am casting upstream at letteing them drift with no retrieve is that the correct way? os should i bed using soem other sort of fly

Nymphs will do you fine, and yes cast them upstream and let them dead drift back towards you. Keep as much line off the water as possible by raising the rod tip as the flies drift back to you, and keep your eyes peeled for any movement on the leader, even if it stops dead, or changes direction, strike. Tight lines.

ps... You might want to risk the wrath of the purists on here by using a sight indicator, there are many different types to choose from.

i picked up some pink elastic for nymph fishing, ive been quite impressed with it. being elastic it is responsive to takes and protects the tippet. ive been using it on my czech nymph setup.

as for flies sadly i couldn't stop catching brownies today no matter what fly i tried, hares ears and shrimps.
