Default Argentina - Patagonia

Hi Guys,

I have a few months in Argentina (arriving mid Jan) and I am planning on getting a load of fishing in!

Can anyone advise on the fishing in Argentina? I am planning on hiring a car from Bariloche, fishing the lake district and further south into patagonia.

The main queries I have are regarding fishing licences and access to the rivers. Are permits required also, or are the waters public access?

I will need to pick up some gear also, as I don't want to be carting a fly rod round Buenos Aires for a month. I'm guessing there would be plenty for fishing shops in the Bariloche area?

If anyone happens to be in the area and fancies splitting the car hire for a few days fishin, be good to hear from you.

Cheers

Have a word with Stevie Munn, he's just got back last week from down there, he told me that he had some nice fish including a 20lb+ seatrout

I don't know whether you''ve already started your trip, but the tips might come in handy for somebody else anyway.

You are required to have a fishing license, which I believe isn't too expensive. You can probably get one at any gas station or fishing shop around the area. Fly fishing is allowed almost everywhere. Catch and release is mandatory in most places.

You can have a look at the fishing regulations. I believe there's a link to the full updated text.

I don't know if finding fly fishing equipment rental will be easy. I haven't been able to find any rentals, at least in Esquel and Trevelin (two cities 350km south of Bariloche).

I've been writing a short article for a friend on the most prominent fly fishing places in Patagonia, you might want to take a look at it before planning your trip. I actually came across your post looking for any places I might have forgotten about, so any comments are obviously welcome.

Good luck with your trip!
