Default Buzzer fishing on Irish loughs

Please could anyone give advise on fishing the buzzer as I am off to Corrib in May and would like to know how they are fished?
Could anyone please give me info on the following.

[1] Which retrieve figure of eight, steady pulls etc

[2] Intermidiate or floater

[3] Colors and hook size of the buzzers

[4] Would you recomend mixing them with traditional flies in a team

Hopefully I will not need to fish them as the trout will be jumping into the boat chasing the mayfly but if not plan B will need to be deployed, just hope I don't get plan XY and Z.

Buzzer fishing is pretty easy once you have confidence in it.
In response to your questions:

1 - figure of eight or let them drift around on the wind
2 - Floater
3 - Size 12 or 14 - black, red and olive are the main colours
4 - No. Fish a team of buzzers on their own

For buzzers I don't think you can beat epoxy buzzers.
I've never fished the Irish loughs but believe the traditional wets are hard to beat there. Worth carrying buzzers anywhere you go though!

Thanks for the info Chris but I was after someone who has buzzer fished the loughs as through experience I have learnt that tactics used on reservoirs back in England totally differ from those in Ireland.

Howdy,

The problem with fishing buzzers in Corrib (in my opinion) is finding good buzzer water and fish that will take them. I don’t fish buzzer much, but I would believe that being in the correct location is much more important than the particular buzzer you have on…

If its anything like last May you won’t need buzzers. Fish were very active on the surface after fly.. Put simply, it was fantastic... Most fish we came across were over 3lb and for small windows during each day were very happy to take dries off the surface.

My advice is to have a rod set up with dries always at the ready.. They may only switch on for 20 mins and if you aren’t ready you will miss it...

I won’t give you advise on buzzer fishing techniques as there are many here who would leave me for dead regarding buzzers. Truth be told, I don’t really enjoy it… (maybe due to the fact that I’m no good at it and cant find good buzzer water, and when I do i struggle to ‘bag up’…

Best of luck.

Cheers
JJ
