I am no expert but I generally find I catch grayling the same way I catch trout. Tungsten PTNs and GRHEs work, but nothing beats a pink shrimp! In winter, I have learned to make sure the nymphs are fished hugging the bottom where the grayling seem to predominantly feed.

Hi Poacher, there are several guys on this forum who fish for Grayling in the Pontypridd area. I think that water is contolled by the Ospreys club. The lower Taff is contolled by Glamorgan Anglers, day tickets available from Garry Evans and several other outlets. There is lots of info on fishing for Grayling on here and videos on Youtube. And what he says^^.

I have to agree with The Trout Tickler. The only addition I can add is I tend to tie my Bead head PTNs similar to the polish varients which are tied with a red, pink, orange silk. Somewhat similar to Davie McPhail's. I have had loads of success with this pattern, in fact, I often favour it over the czech style nymphs.

To catch the better fish, you really need to allow for a couple of frosts to climatise the little ladies. Good luck with pursuing these little gems, they really are a fun fish to catch!

Guessed you would be around that area mate. I fish quite regularly on the Taff just downstream of you for the ladies. It is definitely worth joining the Osprey's and FTAC (I am already a member of FTAC and will join Osprey's next season). Both clubs seem to offer grayling days and have plenty of people around to point you in the right direction.

I will probably not get out on the Taff again until January now as I have some sessions on the Southern Chalk booked and then Christmas is here to mess up the winter fishing. If you would like showing around some bits of the Taff in the New Year let me know, I will gladly show you my favourite stretches.

The fish in the Taff are mainly pretty small at the moment (apparently this is cyclical so in a few years it will be full of monsters) but there are plenty of them so as long as the conditions are not total ***** like last weekend you will probably catch a good few.

Dan

I can give you a lesson, but you have to cast good! Not that double hauling you use up Traws. But first you need to buy some grayling bugs/Czech Nymphs.
