Default Winston B111x or sage zxl

Having completed my first rod build last winter (7ft 3wt Winston WT) I'm keen to tackle new project this winter. Most of my fishing is small stream with light 7ft or smaller rods. I don't need another small rod so looking to build either 8ft 4wt or 9ft 5 wt and currently thinking of either winston b111x or sage zxl anyone tried both? What did you think of the actions - not looking for a super fast poker.

Leaning towards the 9 ft 5 wt on the b111x blank as I have the odd trip to small stillwaters and think that blank would be ideal for short distance work but could also chuck out a long line if needed. The other fishing would be for grayling on the southern chalk streams (whilst the prices remain sensible)

If you are looking for a slower action, have a look at some of Taniwha fibre glass builds, they are a different kettle of fish to carbon rods. I've just built my first and it is sweet, almost slow motion compared to me greys and orvis rods.

Having had both in the 9' 5wt from what you've described ie there use
I'd say the B3X fits the bill more completely, I'm sure others will have
their views but for me the winny is the more complete package. I hope
that helps good luck pal

The ZXL is a sweet rod. Very easy going , but oh so precise

I haven't cast the Winston yet but i've had an 8'6'' 4wt ZXL for a couple of months now and it's brilliant

2-1 to the sage, those that have the zxl do you only use it on rivers ? 90% of my fishing or more is rivers but looking for a rod that I can use on bigger rivers and the odd small stillwater.

Two to one on the ZXL but I've cast both and
the B3 wins just.

Toss a coin , The two rods are very sweet indeed!

Very difficult decision

As Col said both very good rods and a tough choice? If you want a bit
more backbone the B3 wins if you don't then the ZXL.. As I've said for
me the B3 wins but the ZXL is very sweet with a courtland peach

Thanks guys. I think the B3x is fits my requirements a little better - just need to order the kit and get building.
