Default Winter Grayling

The Salmon fishing is over for another year, so i thought i might embrace some new quarry in this cold time of year.

I've never fished for grayling intentionally but caught a cracker two years ago way down deep on the Tweed, what a beautiful fish and a hefty size too!

Any ideas of rivers to fish near the West Cheshire side?!?

Cheers, Scott

Excellent Grayling fishing available on the river Dee in North Wales. Day tickets easily available on the stretch around Llangollen from the newly combined Llangollen and Maelor Clubs.

Posted this on a different thread, but here goes.

My river holds all game fish, i like occasional grayling fishing.

However, some anglers feel it should be discouraged as fishing for grayling at this time of year, they suggest, disturbs salmon redds.

I am not so sure and would like to carry on grayling fishing without doing any damage to the salmon population.

What is your experience of this.

Do you fish upstream only.

After fishing for Salmon at the backend on two different rivers this year, i've come to the conclusion that salmon now have ulterior motives and will completely switch off to anything. They honestly couldnt care less to a fly or even a line. Plus salmon will stick to the shallows in gravel beds or even the mouth to streams. I wouldn't be discouraged by the salmon anglers myself being one salmon will probably disturb you more than you will disturb them, as i said before they have completely turned off now to anything. I really wouldn't worry about it! Keep Fishing!

I would tend to fish upstream with nymphs to get the fly much deeper!

Thank you for the response, it is appreciated.

I think i will search out the grayling this time, especially if the mild weather holds, at least i can raise the points you mentioned to those who frown.
