Default R. Ure - river levels

As a complete newbie to fishing rivers I have a question regarding river levels based on the environment agency river level readings.

What max. and min. heights would you consider it not worthwhile fishing the Ure between Hawes and Masham?

I would imagine that even when very low there would be one or two decent pools worth fishing.

Cheers
Dave

The minimum level that i would consider not fishing the Ure would have to be...... empty .......

With regard to high levels, not a problem unless it's black water..... the Ure often runs high and fairly strong at times, but the colour soon runs out and can remain clear for days..... just make sure you have some very heavy tungsten on yer cast. If the waters black then you can struggle ( same on most rivers ) but it's a nice feeling to get one in such conditions.

I have been fishing the Ure for a couple of seasons now. I agree with Fred but would just add that if you are wading it then keep a very careful eye on the levels it can go up alamingly fast. A few weeks ago I saw the gauge register a 1.5 m rise in under two hours. That is a quite modest rise by its standards...

As I live a good way away unlike locals like Fred I do tend to keep an eye on the EA website monitor at masham bridge . I find the stretch I fish is at its best between 0.3 and 0.6 . Dead low in summer and you will still find fish anything much over 0.7 wading becomes increasingly challenging. But I am an old duffer with knackered knees....However as Fred says you can still find fish..

Hope that helps....

Andy
