Default Tenkara Style / Technique

I came across Tenkara by accident and was wondering how many forum members have tried or fish Tenkara style?

Kind Regards
SSUK

The only trout fishing I do is on small to medium sized streams, and it's been all tenkara for a few years now.

You can have the perfect fly, tied with excellent materials but if you do not present it in the right place and in the best possible way, it serves no purpose! Massimo Magliocco

Been using an Iwana for nearly two years. I use it for about 90% of my river fishing now and find it quite the best for river nymphing

Hi guys.
I fancy a go at this, and as I havent got a christmas present to me yet it seems like the obvious choice
The streams I fish have no issues with overhead foliage so fancy a longer rod, the fish are modest, say 4 to 12 inches, with the odd brute at 14"!!!!!! So i guess a 5,5 action will be fine (I've had a wee look on the net).
Could anyone recommend a supplier of a particular rod and leader setup which works. Who wont exterminate my fragile bank ballance after the purchase!!!

Cheers

Rod

Tenkara USA have a UK distribution warehouse - so p and p shouldn't be prohibitive. Their rods start at around £100 and I happen to know that Rod Dibble is doing really good furled Tenkara leaders these days too. Of course, Tenkara USA also sell the leaders (tapered and level line).

Please don't take this the wrong way, but how does this differ from whip fishing, I have 5 browning telescopic whips from 2m to 4.5m from my match days, theses whips have very soft tip actions but can easily land fish up to 4lb, during my days on canals I would fish all day on whips with good roach and small bream bags. could i use one off these whips for this type of fishing thanks Steve.

Roders,

The level lines are the most versatile as you can easlily adapt lengths. I also find them easlier/lighter to hold off the water when using a dry.
Tenkara USA were doing level leaders in pink when I got mine. They now only do them in green.
IMO the real authority on Tenkara leaders is CM Stewart from tenkarabum.com. Read his articles on the reason for floro level leaders. He'll supply too...
