Hi guys I'm going to Markle on Saturday and was wondering what's doing the damage there just now. I tried there website but last report was mid 2009 lookung to knock up a few flies in the next couple of days so any pointers where to start, thanx

Yellow dancers and damsel flies always work well, its also a good buzzer water and black and white buzzers catch well, i always liked using black lures there

And their website is a joke, if they cant be arsed to keep it updated they should get rid of it, they did the exact same with the lomond hills fishery website

I was there a couple of weeks ago and was getting them on a large green and white dancer. Tried some smaller stuff but never got a touch.
One thing about Markle, is the fish are never very deep. Even on a cold day I wouldn't use more than an intremediate. Yellow dancers, orange fritz and Black and gold shuggies are always worth a shot. If they're on small stuff, try a diawl bach or a hares ear. I tend to have more success on those than buzzers.

There website is a waste of time, but you can get fairly regular updates of how it's fishing in the Evening News (available online). Looks like they are updating the website on their other fishery (Morton) just as frequently

Cracking day mate meant to reply earlier. Git there at 8.20 with the sun shining and a gentle breeze, if a little cold causing a nice ripple. Couldn't have asked for much more. Anyway set up with a green and black bunny leech and diawl bach on the dropper. Headed to the small fly pond where my dad missed one first cast on a green and white leggy dancer I persevered for about half an hour with no interest but a few fish were seen moving. No one else was catcging so I swapped to a satanic buzzer 3 feet under a big dry daddy and took a nice fish on the buzzer after about 20 mins. Perceviered til about 10 but no more fish for anyone so had a break. Decided to give the bait pond a go as that's where all the club were fishing, so glad I did. First cast missed a fish then had another 2 at me in 5 mins all to the daddy. Taking the buzzer off for a black klink I'm rewarded with at least an offer every other cast to both flies. At twelve time is calledand I end the session with 7 landed,4 lost and who knows how many missed my dad had.4 2 on a black klink. A real red letter day, oh and I scooped the heaviest fish comp as well before heading to haddington for a few jars

Sounds like a pretty good day. Markle can be great for dry fly but it can also be one of the most frustrating if they're preoccupied with a particular fly. Doesn't happen so much at this time of year - more so in the summer.

This was 1 of the most popular trout fishery
at 1 time,but has been badly run the last few years.
But i myself john mackay flies intend to get it
back at the top,not far away now.watch the space.
real good quality hard fighting fish,and is 1 off the
best for top of the water sport,last week before the ice
hit us,we had some snow,and i put on a big dry daddy
and had 7 fish in no time and must have missed easily the same.
