Its my local - the water is desperately low this year as we've just had our first rain in 10-11wks and the Grayling are shoaled up in the deeper fast pockets (heavy nymphs needed!!). Also as C&R is more evident this year than most - and as a result there are still a huge amount of trout about. These bad boys will chase grayling and salmon off their lie and so the grayling can sometimes be tricky to find.
I watched last week as 3x 1.5lb grayling were moving up stream and got chased so many times...
The low water also makes them very spooky and if you catch a trout - which you will probably do - it will kill it for a bit and they will also make a mess of a French leader with a 3 fly cast as even though they are stockies, they fight really hard. Funny thing is to fool the grayling you need to go quite fine as they are well educated.
ahh...fishing eh.. never quite as simple as you imagine!!
