Default Esk Grayling (Musselburgh)

Today I went to enquire about a day ticket for grayling in the esk and was told that grayling permits have been done away with due to people targeting out of season brownies and if I wanted to have a go for them without getting in real bother id have to buy a salmon permit for the day at a tenner which I really dont get lol I dont know the ins and outs of fishing rights and such but because it doesnt suit them to make grayling permits available can they point blank ban it?

Dont know the crack with Mussleburgh but if you go up river from Whitecraigs up fishing is free. Only Musselburgh water is stocked, cared for by MAA. I have heard there are some good grayling in the Lasswade area, not really fished it myself though. Hope this helps

Bigstoo - did they say how late into the year you could get the salmon permits?

Best fishing is above Dalkieth cracking stretch under the A7 bridge, some of the banks are difficult but should be easier to access now the weed is dying back, Grayling wise its not bad, had a few around the 1lb mark but most are smaller, i have heard of big fish getting caught though.

If your wading be careful, few drop offs and big boulders!

Hey folks,

I have been thinking bout the Esk for Grayling. Ive only really fished it @ the motorway Bridge on the A1.

Where are the best places to park near dalkieth, Lasswade or rosewell to get down to the river?

If you dont want to post on here can you pm me?

Cheers
Martin
