Default Beads on nymphs.. which one?

Tying up my usual offerings in a clockwork mode... Question? why do we prefer a certain colour/metal bead? I'm not talking size... in all honesty, I catch on the same nymphs tied with brass, copper, silver or gold...

My decision on bead typically depends on the depth or how quickly i want my fly to desend..

I tie the same pattern of fly with varying weighted beads, therefore it allows me to fish varying depths.

i have varying sucess fishing bright coloured beads and therefore typically use copper or tungsten beads.

Kind Regards

For me, colour of the bead determines how heavily fished the water is.

The more angling pressure, the drabber (black, Gunmetal) the beads I use.

Seems to higher the catch rate as every fisherman seems to use gold/copper & silver beads. Don't they?

Kinda like me Kieron... but I go for the drab ones straight away depending on the clarity of the water.... good answer mate!

Martin., I tend to use gunmetal for darker coloured nymph , copper for nymphs with a lighter coloured body, and silver if the water is carrying a bit of colour.

The two coloured beads I tend to use throughout the year are Gold and Metallic Green, the Met Green is not widely used so as noted previously on heavily fished waters it tends to fish well. Come Grayling time in addition to the above I use Pink/Orange beads. Always use Tungsten.

I've never really been into silver beads Frank - although, The past year ive been using a few and they have got me out of a few sticky situations! Don't know if it was the fly/bead or just pure determination.

Yeah, going by the unwritten rule that the darker flies/beads show up better in dirty water is normally a good thing to go by Mart!

I always though that it was the darker the day that darker the fly and that it referred to the light conditions.

Personally in coloured water I have found that silver , white orange and red work best.
