Default Bullington Manor, River Dever

I was given a Fishing Breaks voucher last Christmas. I'm thinking of using it to buy a day on the above beat for grayling, once the trout season is over. The advantage is that the price falls to something approaching affordable but also (a priority for me) at that time of year you get a good length of river to wander. Before I book it up, has anyone ever fished it? It's the next beat up from the Dever Springs stretch, as far as I can tell. Any views on whether it's a decent bit of river for grayling?

Thanks

Hi Tony

Funny you shoudl mention this, I also had a fishing breaks voucher last christmas and I was also wondering about this beat. I fished it a few years ago and it was pretty good. Lots of water and plenty of fish. But it is expensive (£87?) and I have to balance the fact that i could use the voucher to fish the Lambourn and Avon, both of which I've fished and done very well on. You have a bit of a trek from Bristol and I certainly wouldn't put you off the Dever, these rivers are local to me though and I'll probably go Avon/Lambourn

Feel free to PM me if you want more details re tactics etc

Regards
Peter

I think it's £79, looking at the Fishing Breaks website. Feels a tad expensive for a day's grayling fishing, especially compared to Wherwell Estate, Timsbury & others (all of which I appreciate aren't on the Fishing Breaks menu).

Sadly, the Kennett Carriers at Denford aren't available for grayling this year, which used to be a value-for-money option.

Back when I first did the grayling days out of O'Reilly's shop we went to the manor ,really a superb beat ,that season sensible money ,the following season it went mega money ,so the move to Wherewell happened ,prices there are far more sensible, but the manor is a treat ,would maybe give it go if there was a good bonus or the club had some dam fool buying a methusala of Cristal so service charge went way up.!

Thanks all. It is expensive but the voucher I have covers it and so may give it a whirl as a treat to myselff. I particularly like the fact that you have 4 miles of river to play with - I like to roam a bit!

I'll report back.
