Default Loch Doon Suggestions

I have recently started fishing Loch Doon and been having really good fun in fantastic scenery. I have a caught a few brownies on each trip with the best being around the 3/4lb mark but all fighters. I have fished at the far burn to the south near the waterfall entrance to the forest drive. As it is a huge water I would be grateful for any tips or suggestions about which other parts of the water can be fished as a bank fisherman.
I have noted the boats tied up on the water which suggest a club but I have never seen them used on the water during any of my visits so any info would be welcome.

Hi

Most of the loch can be fished from the bank although I would favour the far bank (opposite road side.) this is best approached from the Carsphairn road.
There is a laybye on the right as you go Carsphairn you can see the Loch from the road. This leads you down the hill to Eriff bay the you can go left or right and fish the bank. This is the side that is least fished. Anywhere round the top of the loch past the castle is also worth a go. That is the area you have fished. Also the lanes (burns) Carrick and Gala are worth a go.
Hope this helps

Regards
Alastair

I think the boats on the loch are for hire, saw a couple of them out recently and they were having some good sport in the bay where the Carrick flows in.

A lovely loch but all the mess left by the irresponsible campers puts me off it.

Thumbs up Re: Loch Doon Suggestions

I agree with your comments re mess. It is unbelievable to me how people will go out to the outdoors to fish in great location and leave such a mess behind them. They are fishing as I have cleared a lot of line left behind to damage the wildlife. However as i fish mainly during the day i have not been bothered by overnight or late night campers/fishermen!!! It is still a great place to go.
If anyonelse has info re the boats be pleased to hear from them.

Hi

THe boats belong to angling clubs. As far as I can remember the Ness Glen Club are one of them.
Anyone can put a boat on loch Doon.
Best place to find out more would be the news agent in Dalmellington. I think one of them sells fishing tackle.
AS far as I am aware the boats are not hired out.
The loch is 7 miles long and half mile wide at its widest point so there is plenty of bank to explore.
Hope this helps

Thanks Alastair, will check with the newsagent. I'm looking forward to exploring the water and at that size it will take a long time and lots of fun.

Can be a dour loch at the best of times , but it can throw up some good days especially with trout in the 3/4-1lb bracket . Good mate of mine had a 14lb brown of it a few years back , A pure beast of a fish , i have a photo somewhere if i can find it i will post it
