Default The Dart or The Teign?

Well then, I've just moved out to the Jurassic coast in Devon. Unfortunately I've got a paper to write before the end of the month but I fancy I can give myself one day off for a spot of fishing before the season comes to an end. A bit of research tells me I could buy a day ticket for either the East and West Dart or the Upper Teign. I was wondering if someone with experience of either or both could supply a recommendation? Or is it a win-win situation?

(Any advice on where I might find some day ticket Grayling would be most appreciated too.)

Thanks all.

Come fish the East or West Dart if you want some rugged terrain and an outstanding, challenging, yet stunningly beautiful environment within which to fish.

Otherwise fish the Teign with all of the other old women

The Teign will no doubt hold some better fish for you on a one off day, but you must remember the high moorland rivers can be quite dissapointing come September; if you come prepared for a great walk then you will go home very very happy... If you catch some fish - more so

If you decide to fish the East or West Dart drop me a pm and I will give you a nudge in the right direction for some good access and egress points on the South West's best kept fishing secret

'Jurassic' Coast... Exmouth, Budleigh, Seaton??? Where abouts are you?

You will get a lot more protection from the elements if you fish the Teign.
I like the Dart, but at this time of year i would make the choice of the Teign every time.
I had 2 clients out today, it was difficult but they did manage 20 fish between them up to 10''.
Cheers
Richard

That's great stuff chaps, thank you.

Firstly I must set the record straight, I don't live on the Jurassic Coast at all - having looked it up I see that it stops just across the estuary from me, I'm in Dawlish.

The prospect of some really wild fishing on the Dart is very attractive, though I suppose I don't want my waders turned inside out beneath me. Is it wading territory or is the walking such that your better off without? I had wondered if it would be possible to hike to some fishing, fish, camp over night, fish again and hike back - though I've not put my research team to work on that possibility yet.

It sounds as though I might be best off trying out the Teign this time and save the Dart for next season, unless I get a cracking day weather wise maybe. I had hoped to try both this year with a view to buying a season ticket on the one I like best next year.

It's these sorts of difficult decision that make it all worth while. Thanks again for your advice so far, I may have to trouble you for more in due course.

.
Dawlish is nice

Most folk walk the West Dart with a bit of wading here and there. The access isnt that difficult - the thing is to get it right - you have both entire systems of the East and West Dart on the Duchy ticket so there is plenty of room up here - I seldom see anyone else ... fantastic

Fishing and camping... now we are talking

For the Grayling look to the Westcountry passport system fishing the rivers running through Inny.

And as far as the Teign goes, You want to look to the Fingle Bridge area. You can buy your permit from the Drewsteignton Post office. The fish are small but pretty with the chance of the odd stocked brownie. A pretty river and an enjoyable day out.

The wildness of the Dart has to win through unless you are being sociable in which case bring on the Teign.

It was flippin' cold up here this evening though Loopy My fingers have started to ache while fishing - a sure sign that autumn has landed herself once again on our doorstep. But as you say - it wins hands down.

Here's a chap that followed on from me tonight (I sneaked off to the pub for a...ahem...coffee )
